We had a beautiful morning to welcome new families and children to our kindergarten earlier this month. We had a formal welcome, a Mihi Wakatau (to settle).
The kindergarten community gathered in the garden to welcome the new families. The Mihi Whakatau was spoken and acknowledged the Sky father and earth mother, also the pou (pillars) of our community that help keep our kindergarten and school thriving. We also acknowledged our ancestors and those that have passed. We welcomed these families with mihi aroha, a heart-felt loving greeting.
We then greeted each other and then shared a lovely morning tea. It was wonderful to have a connection with the Kohunga Reo Kaiako (teachers) and have the hand-over of one of their tamariki, their precious taonga (treasure) to us.
