The town lies between the mountains and the sea, and is a gateway to a variety of outdoor activities in the stunning Kahurangi and Abel Tasman National Parks, and the beach resort of Kaiteriteri. These destinations, and the benevolent climate, attract national and international visitors, some of whom return every year, or choose to make it their permanent home.
Motueka township has a population of about 7,000, and the surrounding district is home to a further 5,500. The town services this resident population plus the large number of summer holiday makers.
The horticultural industry also attracts many seasonal workers during the summer months. This summer influx is a significant boost to local businesses and results in the town having many shops, services, arts and crafts, and amenities that are only found in larger towns.
The outstanding natural landscapes, climate and relaxed atmosphere of this area make it a wonderful place to live.
